Second Life recreated in East London - for real

If you're wondering what a lot of Second Life is like (especially where ad agencies and brands have build monolithic virtual in-world HQs) but can't be bothered to sign up and create an avatar blah blah blah, there's good news.

Get down to the ExCel exhibition centre in East London on a weekday evening. Wander around a new city on a massive scale - some of it under construction - packed with hotels, bars and restaurants, most of which have two people in them.

Empty plazas. Eery, totalitarian vistas... it's got it all.

Weird. I don't get it. But I can see why brands are doing a land-grab. May not be much now, but I hear that some people are making virtual millions there... ;-)

: : BTW the Caribbean Scene restaurant is very good indeed though. Yum.

: : : BBTW: First Capital Connect is dreadful. If you need to come to Brighton come via Victoria even if it looks more sensible to come on the FCC line. First train canceled. Second train 50 mins late. Nice work after a long day... Grrr...
