Those about to micro-chunk salute you

The New York Times [chant: without whom there would be nothing to blog about. Amen.] reports that heavy metal hard men, Metallica have given up the ghost in the fight against the online music revolution.

Metallica are more famous in some circles today for their fight against Napster and refusal to allow people to buy single tracks over iTunes.

They have had to bow to the inevitable trend of "micro-chunking" - the desire by online-oriented consumers to consume and sometimes buy small pieces of content, rather than more commercially convenient bodies of work and will be selling music over iTunes now.

Hallelujah - almost makes me want to buy another iPod (if they came out with a ruggedised and/or reliable version that could survive more than three months).
